Ladytron dropped a dark, cinematic single, “Kingdom Undersea,” and shared that their eighth studio album, Paradises, will arrive on March 20.
After more than two decades of shaping a distinctive synth-pop sound and becoming a touchstone of the 2000s underground, Helen Marnie, Daniel Hunt, and Mira Arroyo, better known as Ladytron, remain as culturally relevant as ever. The trio first rose to prominence in the early 2000s with their signature synth-driven blend of pop and techno. Their experimental new wave sound, infused with dazzling elements of shoegaze and dreamy melodies, has made their music a natural fit for film and television. In an era where nostalgic tracks are resurfacing on TikTok, Ladytron’s classics, such as “Seventeen” and “Destroy Everything You Touch,” are finding a new audience on the platform, demonstrating how their music continues to resonate with younger listeners.
Following their 2023 album Time’s Arrow, Ladytron returns to the forefront with the forthcoming album titled Paradises, set for release on March 20, via Nettwerk. The expansive 16-track record marks the band’s most dance-oriented work to date, offering a vibrant collection of songs laced with shimmering disco vibes and Balearic tones. Paradises takes listeners on a journey through the heart of Ladytron, revealing an emotionally open side of the band. Fans can expect warm synths, dreamy rhythms, and late-night introspective moods woven throughout the album.
Speaking about the new record, Mira said, “I wanted to write from that perspective and channel that fun feeling of first working together back in the late ’90s when we had nothing to lose.” Daniel added, “There’s an itch we never scratched, which is that despite our origins in the DJ world, we never actually made a ‘disco’ record. Albeit, ‘disco’ in our context has a somewhat different meaning.”
To give listeners a taste of what’s to come, Ladytron unveiled the latest single, “Kingdom Undersea,” an evocative, brooding track with dreamlike textures. Helen Marnie and Daniel Hunt perform a rare vocal duet in the song, as their voices thread through cascading piano riffs and pulsing basslines. The accompanying music video, set in a dark, intimate space, further amplifies the song’s mysterious atmosphere.
